Yarn from "Sommerfuglen"

As I said in my last post, I bought some yarn in Copenhagen. 

 It was great to be able to touch and feel yarns that I have previously only read about!

And smell.......hope nobody saw me!

9 little balls of Ruzicka Marl & Knops in coordinated colours, all together 150 grams. Maybe for a Fair Isle project, or perhaps for Tidsel. 

Two skeins of Tussah tweed, in a very light "powder pink".

One skein of  naturally coloured Spinni Tweed from Isager. I love natural colours in wool!

 

One skein of wonderfully soft Blue Face Leicester from Fleece Artist in beautiful colours!

I have allready started knitting a Feather and Fan comforting shawl with it.

An incredible soft skein of Helen's Lace from Lorna's Laces

After I came home I discovered that it is excacttly the yarn used in Rock-island from Brooklyn Tweed. I take it as a sign.

And finally two skeins of Sarah Tweed. A silk/wool blend in a deep brown colour. Me love love love love!!

Copenhagen

We spent last weekend in the danish capital Copenhagen.

A lovely city, where 30% of the inhabitants use a bicycle to get around.

Not much traffic compared to Oslo!

Spring was way ahead of Norway.

Best of all, our hotel was in the same street as "Sommerfuglen", one of the best shops in the whole city! Here is a picture taken from the hotel window, and there is "Sommerfuglen" right at the end of the street!

What do they sell at "Sommerfuglen"?

Yarn! Lots and lots of beautiful soft lovely yarn!

Crochet blanket 120-3

My cherry tree is blossoming.

And I finally got around to blocking my blanket, wich has been finished for quite some time now.

In the pattern there was no description for edging, so I made one up. I think an edging is necesary to get closure.

I wanted the edging to look the same as the pattern between the squares.

Pattern: DROPS blanket crochet in squares
Yarn: Perfect and Smart from Sandnes
Hook: 7mm
Finished size: 180x140 cm, 70x55 inches

Granny square dress and hat

I made this little dress for a lovely little girl called Milla. A nice design that will work well alone during the hot days of summer, but I also think it will look nice on top of tights and a turtleneck when the weather cools in autumn. 

The dress is crochet in 100% cotton yarn. You start by joining a ring of granny squares before adding on stripes and with untill desired size.

ending with a nice green and orange edging.

 The hat is made in the same way, starting with a ring of granny squares.

Pattern from Sandnes catalogue no 0706, pattern no 10.
Size 2 yrs
Yarn: Mandarin petit 100% cotton
Hook: 2.5mm
Notes: A quick and fun project to make, but the yarn tends to split which was frustrating at times. A bigger hook would probably help, but then the gauge would have been off.

Sticking to the red theme, this was my lunch in the sun yesterday:

One chopped tomato, lots of feta cheese, olives and pine nuts. Yummy!

Low carb crisps (lavkarbo knekkebrød)

A couple of months a go I started eating LCHF (low carb high fat). After two months I have noticed several improvements in my physical well being. This way of eating means no bread, rice, pasta or potatoes because of the high contents of carbohydrates, but these low carb crisps only have 0.75 grams carb per crisp, and they taste good too! There are several recipes to be found on line, but as far as I know this particular recipe is original from me.

Bodil's Low carb crisps

(norwegian recipe in parentheses) 

200g linen seeds (200g linfrø)

100g sunflower seeds (100g solsikkefrø)

100g sesame seeds (100g sesamfrø)

50g wheat bran (50g kruskakli)

2tbs psyllium husk (2ss fiber husk)

1tsp salt (1 ts salt)

550 ml water (5,5 dl vann)

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, and divide the dough on two trays covered with baking paper. (I have bought reusable paper that works very well). 

Spread the dough thinly and put them to bake in a preheated oven 175 C. 

If you have a hot air oven you can bake both trays at the same time.

After 10 minutes, remove the crisps, and divide them into 16 pieces per tray (4x4) total 32. For this I use my pizza wheel but a knife will work too.

Put them back into the oven and bake until dry and crisp, about 45 minutes more, taking care not to overcook. 

It is important that they are baked untill they are completely dry, then they can be stored in an airtight container for weeks.

Tastes great with cheese!

Knitted tunic in "Silke-tweed"

 During the easter holidays I had time to finish my tunic, wich I started on a while a go.

The lacy edge is a nice contrast to the slightly rough yarn.

The front has an interesting construction too.

The tunic fits snuggly over the chest and flows out to a loose fit over the hips, just the way I like it!

Pattern:  Knitted DROPS tunic with ¾ sleeves in garter st and wavy pattern
Yarn: Silke-tweed from Drops
Needles: 3mm
I also started two new projects with yarn from my stash

"Easy drop stitch scarf" in pure silk.

"One row scarf" in pure merino wool.

Ninja enjoyed helping with the spring cleaning in the garden.

Crochet hat for sunny days

One of my favourite pass times is to sit outside in the sun, knitting or reading. Til now my sun shade has been this:

I thought it was time to make something a bit more feminine, a crochet hat.

A flexible hat that can be worn in different ways.

Definitely more feminine than the old one!

Yarn: Cotton Viscose (2skeins) and Bomull- Lin (3skeins)
Hook: 4mm
I have allready started a new crochet project, a granny square dress for a lovely little girl who will soon turn two years old.

 Yeela says she just turned one, but she is a big girl.

Granny stripe blanket

Today the sun is shining and the birds are chirping

So I thought I'd show you something that suits the mood of the weather.

My granny stripe blanket! 

I made it last summer, on a trip I took with my boyfriend. We drove 5700 km in two weeks, all the way to the North Cape and back, with a little detour to Sweden and Lofoten as well.

I really enjoyed the trip, and it was nice being a tourist in my own country, as I really hadn't seen much of it before!

The midnight sun up north was beautiful, and very strange having the sun shining in the middle of the night!
